Product Description
A Rubber Tired Gantry Crane (RTG) is a large, self-propelled crane used primarily in ports, freight terminals, and intermodal yards to efficiently move and stack standard shipping containers (like 20ft and 40ft boxes). Unlike rail-mounted cranes, the defining feature of an RTG is its set of large rubber tires mounted under its legs. This allows it to drive freely in multiple directions on paved surfaces - forwards, backwards, and sideways - enabling rapid repositioning without fixed tracks.
The crane has a distinctive gantry structure: two tall, vertical legs supporting an overhead bridge beam spanning the working area. A trolley moves horizontally along this bridge beam. The trolley carries the key lifting tool, called a spreader, which lowers down and locks onto the container's corners. This mechanism lifts, moves, and precisely places containers.
Application Scenarios
High-Density Container Stacking
Vertically stacks shipping containers up to 5-6 tiers high and spans 6-7 rows wide, maximizing storage space in terminals and yards.
Truck Loading/Unloading
Directly interfaces with road trucks: unloads incoming containers from trailers and loads outbound containers onto trucks for transport.
Inter-Stack Container Transfer
Efficiently relocates containers between different stack positions within the yard to optimize workflow and access priority shipments.
Container Rehandling (Restacking)
Accesses and retrieves containers buried under others in dense stacks, minimizing disruption during retrieval operations.
Intermodal Operations Support
Transfers containers between road trucks, rail cars, or storage blocks in intermodal freight terminals for seamless transport handovers.
Terminal Operations Automation Integration
Serves as a critical node in automated/semi-automated terminals, coordinating with AGVs and other systems using GPS and collision-avoidance tech.

Our Advantages
Unrestricted Mobility
Rubber tires enable 360-degree movement on paved surfaces without fixed tracks, allowing rapid repositioning between work zones.
High Stacking Density
Capability to straddle 6-7 container rows + 1 truck lane maximizes vertical/horizontal storage space, reducing terminal footprint.
Reduced Infrastructure Cost
Eliminates need for expensive rail installations and foundation work required by rail-mounted gantry cranes (RMGs).
Operational Flexibility
Modular design supports "add-on" automation upgrades (auto-steering, position monitoring) while maintaining diesel-hybrid power options.
Quick Deployment & Relocation
Self-propelled nature allows fast commissioning and inter-yard transfers without disassembly - critical for temporary/seasonal operations.
Low Ground Pressure
Wide tires distribute weight efficiently (pressure <20 tons/m²), preventing pavement damage during heavy-load maneuvers.
Packaging & Shipping
To ensure safe and damage-free transportation, cranes must be securely packaged in heavy-duty wooden crates or steel frames, with critical components like hoists and girders disassembled if oversized and properly strapped. Electrical systems and sensitive parts should be wrapped in waterproof, anti-corrosion materials, while all packages must be clearly labeled with weight, center of gravity, and lifting points. During transit, components must be firmly fastened using chains or straps to prevent shifting, with special attention given to corrosion protection for sea freight and route planning for oversized shipments. These measures guarantee that cranes arrive in optimal condition for assembly and operation.
